Barnabus Russell was undoubtedly the son of John and Hepsibah (Coleman), b. 18 Nov 1784, Nantucket, m. Mary Swain 6 Feb 1811 and d. 30 Nov 1816 (Nantucket vital records). Nantucket vital records have the death of Barnabus as the 30th of the 11th month (Friends phrasing) 1816, obtained from the William C. Folger Collection, Nantucket Historical Society, and the Isaac Coffin manuscript at the Nantucket Atheneum, the latter of which says he was 32. This and his birth year support the idea that he was the Barclay crewman. Given his death date, the ship was probably off the coast of Peru when he died (they were at latitude 12 30 South on 20 October, which is east of Lima), presumably from sickness or an accident. Shipping news columns often mention deaths at sea among the whalers, but nothing has been found regarding Barnabus.
