MA, no occup., living in household of Ishmael, 56, and Sarah, 54, Tripp. Malinda T. Tripp, 26, poss. his wife. William H., 36, also in household. 1860 US census, NB (p. 68), 45, seaman, w/ Mary, 35, b. MA.

Frederick S. Howland prob. b. 18 June 1815, Dartmouth, MA, son of Joshua and Sylvia (Smith) (see also William and Charles below). The birth date of 6 July 1818 is also given, which would better match the crewlist, but this may be a bap. Marr. Almy S. Russell 6 Feb 1842(IGI). In 1850 US census, Dartmouth (p. 407A), 34, b. MA, sailor, w/ Almy R., 31, b. MA, & 3 ch., and William, 36?, and Charles F., 29, Russell, sailors (Chas was brother of Almy, prob. Wm also). 1860 US census, Dartmouth, (p. 896), 45, master mariner, w/ wife & 5 ch., and William D. Gifford, 28, seaman (his pres. wife, Esther G., 21, was surely the Esther G. Russell, 11, living with the Howlands in 1850). Almy was alone with her younger ch. in 1870, Dartmouth. Frederick d. 1868 (MA State Health Dept.)

Benjamin W. Bates prob. b. 10 Nov 1817, Duxbury, MA, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Hooper)(IGI). In 1850 US census, Bridgewater, MA, 32, trader, w/ wife Diantha 25 & 3 ch. and Elizabeth Hooper, 77, prob. grandmother.

William H. Howland perhaps b. abt1823, Dartmouth, son of William & Abigail. The latter is in the 1860 census, master mariner, age 37, m. 1., 2. Rebecca Howland (vrs). Had a son in California about 1854.

Charles H. Howland prob. b. 25 Feb 1824, Dartmouth, MA, son of Joshua and Sylvia (Smith), m. Elizabeth Howland 30 Jan 1850, New Bedford (IGI).
