Mary grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, and married John King, who lived in the neighboring town of Hingham. She may have died in the Winter of 1729. On April of that month a division of Ebenezer's real estate was made.1 Given the four years since his death, there was a reason for the delay. It must have been that, since Mary owned the homestead, there couldn't be a division until she died. She didn't have a will and there was no designation of inheritance in her deed with Ebenezer, so it would have reverted to Ebenezer's heirs. Ebenezer, Jr., ended up with it, and based on tracing deeds through the 19th century and comparing them to old maps, the Ebenezer Briggs homestead was almost certainly on what is now Pine Street and across the street from the Amos Briggs/Thomas King homestead. From this it's easy to see how Ebenezer and Comfort met.
