vital records sources

There are parish registers and a will that suggest this family came from Winston, County Suffolk in England. This information is referred to in a "Notes and Queries" section of the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol. 57 (July 1903), p. 330. It is there assumed, and widely repeated since, that the marriage record of a Michael Bacon and Mary Jobo in Winston is for Michael, Jr., who settled in Woburn, Massachusetts, which evidence in Massachusetts refutes. He was very likely a cousin of Michael, Jr.. There are also references to his marriage in "Dedham, Norfolk," England, in 1607, which clearly refers to Dedham in Massachusetts at a time when it didn't exist.
Town records in Dedham refer to the Bacons being from Ireland, and that is the only direct reference to a place of origin for this family. The Suffolk connections may be credible based on circumstantial evidence, but the entirety and the confirmation of that evidence hasn't been seen or done yet for this article.
