Clement was baptized in Lydd in the far southeastern corner of Kent, England. He moved to an unidentified place, married a woman named Anna about 1619-20 and she had may have had her two oldest childre there. By 1623 they were in Biddenden, Kent, where the rest of their children in England were baptized.

14 February 1647/8, elected townsman. p. 12b, image 15 In an action against goats breaking into orchards, 14 February 1647/8 there is a specific finable offence for anyone who "shall fall any tree for goats upon the common," and Clement was to fine the offenders. It's not clear how this relates to goats breaking into orchards, or why someone would cut down a tree specifically for goat use. p. 12, image 15

Clement's will:
"Knowe all men by theis pr[esents] that I Clement Bate of Hingham in New England in County of Suffolck being in health and perfect memory doe make ordaine and Constitute this my last will and testament in manner & forme following upon this 12th Day of october in the yeere One thousand sixe hundred sixty and Nyne.
Imprs. I doe give and bequeath unto James Bate my Eldest sonne my house lott next adjoyning to my Sonne Joseph Bate containing five acres bee it more & less given unto mee by the towne of hingham. I alsoe give unto him one halfe of my planting Lott lying upon pleasant hill contaying tenne acres which halfe hee shall have next unto the Land of John Beache senior only hee shall have but one quarter of the swamp that lyes at the Southwesterend of the planting land the other quarter to Benjamin Bate my Sonne. I give also unto James Bate my Sonne one half of my meadowe lying at the upper end of Broadcover meadowe Except about three quarter of an Acre Joyning to Nicolas Bakers meadowe from a great Rocke or damme in the meadowe the wch little parcell I give unto my sonne Joseph Bate.
I doe alsoe give and bequeath unto James Bate A little peece of meadowe lying at Conyhassett being about one Acre. I doe alsoe give unto him all my apparrell linnen Woollen I give alsoe unto him one oxe.
Itm. I do give and bequeath my Sonne Joseph Bate the Summe of tenn pounds which shall be paid unto him by my sonne Samuell Bate in Current Country pay at the terme or End of one whole yeer next ensuing after my decease my true intent is this summe of tenne pounds shal bee hereby paid to him or to his heirs. I doe alsoe give unto Joseph Bate one peece of Salt meadow lying at Conihassett in the first division.
Itm. I give unto Benjamin Bate my Sonne the Summe of tenn pounds the which Summe it is my will that James Bate his Brother shall pay unto him or to his heires or Assignes in Current Country pay after one whole yeer Expired after my decease.
I doe give & bequeath unto Samuell Bate my Sonne one halfe of my planting Lott lying on plesant hill together with one halfe of the swamp lying beneath ye planting hill next adjoyning to the land of Capt. Joshua Hubbart. Alsoe I give unto him one halfe of my meadowe lying at the upper end of broad Cowe [sic - Cove] meadowes. I doe alsoe give unto him my now dwelling house with all other outhouses there unto belonging with that lott of five Acres the house stands upon bee it more or less. I give unto him alsoe one oxe. I doe alsoe give unto my foure sonnes James Joseph Benjamin & Samuell all my household stuff whatsoev to bee equally divided between them or soe many of them as shall remayne at my Decease.
It is alsoe my will that James Bate whom I ordaine to bee Sole Executor to my last will and testament shall pay or cause to bee paid to mr Hubbard our pastour the Summe of twenty shillings. All the fore mencioned pticulars I leave to my Sonnes Desiring and requiring them as their father to live as Brethren in unity and peace and to attend better and higher matters for their Soules welfare at present and for ever soe as although wee shall now part that they may meete mee in a better world. In witnes hereunto I have set my hand and Seale the day & yeere above written being twelfth of October One thousand sixe hundred sixty and nyne.
