Barnabas' signature from his father's probate papers, aged about 28 years. The missing "d" in Howland is odd. George Howland signed just below and included the "d," as did his father's signature

vital records sources: Barnabas' birth was recorded in the records of the Dartmouth Friends Monthly Meeting, and from there published in Vital Records of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, to the year 1850 vol. 1 (New England Historic Genealogical Society:Boston, 1929), 120: "son of Benjamin and Judith, 23rd of 7th month 1699." The seventh month being September on the contemporary Julian calendar. The date is also in a family Bible at the Old Dartmouth Historical Society. The Dartmouth Monthly Meeting records also have both his marriages and his death, and from there published in Vital Records of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, to the year 1850 vol. 2 (New England Historic Genealogical Society:Boston, 1930), 248, and ibid, vol. 3, 38.
