Thomas's mark made on his will


"About the destress taken of Thomas Joy for the ministers rate in the year 1676 by the cunstable the overpluss beside his reate was seaven shillings in money whch William Woodcock pmised to pay to Thomas Joy on the behalf of the towne of Hingham upoin the said Thomas Joy his demaund."" 49 It was likely his widow who was initially on a list of people who hadn't paid their taxes as of 24 December 1678, but crossed out, 51.

"In the name of God amen, I Thomas Jay now of Hingham in the County of Suffolk in the Mattachuchusets Collony in New England doe by these presents make and ordeine this to be my last will & testamt. revoaking and disanulling all other wills whatsoever here to fore made, and this my will following to stand firm as to the disposall of all my temporall estate, that is to say

In ye first place I give to my son Joseph Joy the some of five pounds

Item, to my son Ephraim Jay five pounds to be paid unto them by my executor or executrix hereafter to be named

And as for all my other estate personall or real in possession or in reversion I give and doe bequeath unto my loveing wife Joane Jay to be fully and wholly at her will and disposall provided allways that she disposeth of the same to no other person or persons neither in part nor whole then to my loving daughters Sarah Denham, Elizabeth Beales, Ruth Jay

Finally I constitute and appoynt and make by vertue of these presents my aforesayd wife Joane Jay my full and sole executrix of this my last will and testament, dated this eighth day of July one thousand six hundred seventy and seven
