On 10 June 1646 a court proceeding addressed a complaint by Daniel of having 50 shillings worth of goods taken because he did not perform train band duties even though he was lame and was willing to find a replacement. The court fined him anyway, 50 shillings for past duties and 10 shillings for future duties not performed. The General Court heard his case and overturned his fines, recognizing his disability.
Daniel lived in the Swampscott section of Lynn at this time. He is not among the names of men for whom farms were laid out in Lynn in 1637. It probably was Daniel, Sr., who found the topsail and rigging of the ship Dolphin in Ipswich Bay. He refused to give them up, even if paid. The master of the boat, Maj. Hawthorne, took him to court, complaining that King had been "tendered for all his paynes and charge in securing [them]."
