William was born in Monomoit, Cape Cod (now the town of Chatham). After marrying and having about four children, the family moved to Dartmouth. He bought ninety four acres in what is now the Naskatucket area of Fairhaven, formerly within New Bedford and in 1737, still in Dartmouth. 23 February 1737, 41:294      William sold 20 acres of the northeast part of his homestead in 1747?. 3 Nov 1748, 39:433 He sold fifty acres on the west side of his homestead to his son William on 9 Feb 1753. 41:294. and seventeen acres to Jethro Jenne in the southeast corner the next day. 10 Feb 1753, 41:58. He must have arranged with his son William to build a house on his homestead, since he sold him the house and three quarters of an acre surrounding it in 1757. 6 Apr 1757, 44:552 William signed a note borrowing &13 pounds, 12 shillings from Pelham Winslow on 21 July 1767. He defaulted, was called to court for the April 1769 session in Plymouth and didn't show up. Eighteen acres of his real estate was attached for the value of the note plus interest. Plymouth County Court of Common Pleas, vol. 13, case 55, p. 495. There was no estate probate for William, which means he owned no real estate or didn't have personal belongings of substantial value. There are no deeds showing he or his heirs sold land after 1769.
