There is little mention of John in what is still remaining of the Stamford town records. According to a 1991 map drawn to show lots and owners in Stamford between 1681 and 1700, John's property, shown as two adjacent lots, was at what is now both sides of Pulaski Street at the corner of Washington Boulevard. When he died at about 50 years old, his inventory lists these lots as "one homelot with ye house barne & orchard on ye said lot" valued at £55 and "one home lot" at £30.1 He had other pieces of land in the South Field; Rocky Neck; now called Harbor Neck); the Ox Pasture; Runkenhedge or Runkenhage, which apparently is now the Tokeneke area of Darien; Long Neck; the Horse Pasture, and two pieces of land in "The Weeds," one owned with Daniel and John Scofield. As for personal items, they were generally typical of a prosperous farmer. His household furniture were modest with the exception of a "great" and a small brass kettle and a parcel of books, appraised with spectacles. He also had an unusual array of personal armaments. A "long gun," musket, back sword and belt, lead and bullets, cartouche box and other ammunition not itemized appear on the list. Having two bee hives was was also a bit unusual. The administration of John's estate was revived on 21 January 1719/20. It was meant to include two pieces of land that hadn't previously been administered. They are described as being "laid out" to him. One was at Woodpecker Ridge and the other was adjacent to Wolf Pit Ridge. They aren't in his original inventory, so they were either mistakenly left out or he died with the right to have the lots laid out, but they hadn't yet been. His widow Mary had died, so Samuel Scofield was appointed administrator. All his children Following the inventory is a list of John's children. Only their names are given. It was common at the time in probate records in Fairfield County
