vital records sources: Joseph's birth and marriage are from The Vital Records of Scituate, Massachusetts, to the Year 1850, vols. I (births) & II (marriages & deaths) (New England Historical and Genealogical Society: Boston, 1909), pages 186 and 153 respectively. His birth record says "son of Samuel." He is called Joseph House, Jr. in the marriage record, surely to distinguish him from an older cousin. This event is also in the records of the Second Church of Scituate, which became the First Unitarian Church of Norwell. is in Birth, Marriage and Death Register, Church Records and Epitaphs of Lancaster, Massachusetts, 1643-1850,(Clinton, MA: 1890), 324. No age is given, but he was the only man of that name known at the time in Lancaster.
